Including some type of identification on your pet is important! According to the American Humane Association, one in three pets will go missing in their lifetime. During the summer months - when pets are more likely to spend time outdoors enjoying the warmer weather - they are most likely to go missing.

Some ways to ID your pet include: collar, tags, and a microchip. A pet microchip is placed between your pet’s shoulder blades and stores information. Most veterinarian offices and animal shelters have the ability to scan a microchip and read information that will help them be reunited with their owner. If your pet does not have any type of ID on them, be sure to add some type of identification prior to bringing them along with you on your favorite summer activities.

During the summer months there are so many fun places to take your pet! Whether you enjoy hiking, going to the ocean or lake, or just taking a car ride around town, your pet is sure to be happy as long as they are with you.

Unfortunately, the summer months can be a very dangerous time for pets because of the hot weather. One of the biggest mistakes a pet owner can make is leaving their pet alone in the car. Leaving a pet alone in a vehicle could lead to your pet experiencing brain damage, vision loss, or even death.

While this reminder is important during the summer - it is important to keep this in mind all year long as extreme cold temperatures can also damage your pet.

If you ever come across a pet parked in a vehicle alone on a hot (or cold) day then call the non-emergency number of your local police or animal control center and give them information about the car’s location, make, model, and license plate number. By taking this action - you could be saving a pet’s life.

July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month. One of the worst fears any pet-lover has is their furry friend getting lost. Thankfully - there are many ways you can avoid this situation, and ways to find your pet quickly if they do go missing.

Some ways to protect your pet include: microchipping your pet, getting a collar with ID tags that you keep on your pet at all times, teach your pets commands such as 'come' and 'stay', keep your pet on a leash, secure your yard and home so there are no easy ways for your pet to escape, spay or neuter your pet, and pay attention to what your pet is doing.

During the summer months - pets are at a higher risk of going missing because of more time spent outdoors, and more visits to places that are unfamiliar to your pet. With that said - the above tips will help keep them right where you want them to be!
